Children
What we do
Our focus for Children’s Ministry is that all our teaching will be Bible-centred and evangelical, sharing the values and love of Jesus Christ in a way in which all children will understand and relate to their own lives, and that will be fun and dynamic too!
For the first three or four weeks, depending on the calendar month, children attend different classes according to their school age. On the last Sunday of every month, the children all meet together in a large space and have a time of worship and fun and games together. We invite someone to come and speak to them about a particular topic. If we have a team who have been on a short term mission we ask them to come and tell the children about their experiences; we have church members gifted in dance, drama and music who are also asked to come and do a special session with the larger group. The oldest group (those who are in High School) spend one session a month in the main service and at the end of the month might help with the main group session or discuss a video presentation on topical issues.
We use material from The Children’s Ministry series which we find is an appropriate, flexible, and Bible-centred series that adapts to different learning styles and offers something for everyone.
Crèche (Ages 0-3)
In crèche most of the time is spent in play, singing and dancing! Volunteers man the crèche on a rota basis, always working in twos to ensure safety and fun is guaranteed for all.
Bright Sparks (Nursery-Primary 1)
Bible based activities follow the general theme being used by the other classes. They do lots of craft work, some acting out, and some singing and dancing! We have a rota of teachers assisted by a helper.
Path Finders (Primary 2-4)
Bible base activities follow the general theme being used by Bright Sparks, but the activities will involve more literacy and numeracy. They also do a bit of singing and dancing and make quite a lot of noise! Teachers work on a rota system and sometimes helpers are used for larger numbers.
God Squad (Primary 5-7)
The teaching follows the main theme of the materials used by the other classes, but there will be more discussion based sessions at this level. The children are encouraged to bring their thoughts on life’s questions and to know God in a variety of ways. Music is usually listened to and meditated on, although some singing and dancing is also possible if deemed cool enough!
Jesus Generation (Secondary 1-4)
Sessions are decided upon by the teachers and young people as they express interest in a specific area of study or life issue. They will attend the main service and then use the next session to discuss what they understood or need clarifying from the main sermon. We encourage discussion and friendly debate as we see our young people grow in love and in their gifts.
Child Protection
We operate a Child Protection Policy according to Government guidelines, and are kept up to date on current legislation by membership not only with the Government Body in Scotland (CRBS), but with an organisation called the Churches Child Protection Advisory Service. All our volunteers, helpers and teachers have been through an Enhanced Disclosure procedure. Within our team we have people who are qualified in first aid and we have a special “emergency” call on standby. We want our church and our Children’s Ministry to be a safe, relaxed environment that children will enjoy and that adults will feel comfortable with.
